Another treatment for sudden back pain is ‘Visualisation’. For this try the autogenic training, which involves sitting in a relaxed position while you conjure up positive pictures and repeat phrases such as ‘calm and regular is my heartbeat’ to aid relaxation.

They have been used for thousands of years for emotional and physical healing. If you close your eyes and visualise say taking a bite out of a block of chocolate, the chances are that your taste glands will salivate and react as though you have really bitten into a block of chocolate.

The same thing happens if you visualise yourself running up and down a flight of steps, your heart rate should increase even though you are sitting down and relaxing.
