STUDY FINDS A LINK WITH SLEEP PROBLEMS AND FIBROMYALGIA…

Fibromyalgia

A recent study has found a link with sleep problems and Fibromyalgia.

Apparently women older than 45 have the greatest risk of the sleep problem link.

The exact causes of Fibromyalgia remain a mystery to this day, but Norwegian researchers have found a connection with women who have persistent sleep problems who then have developed Fibromyalgia.

They say the findings are important as they indicate that sleep problems can be an important factor in developing Fibromyalgia.

According to Paul J Mark.PhD, professor in the department of Human Science at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway, early detection and proper treatment may decrease the risk of Fibromyalgia as well as other chronic diseases.

  1. This is exactly my situation, Barb. The consultant was of the opinion that if he sorted out my chronic insomnia then the fibromyalgia would diminish, and this is what’s happening. So not being able to sleep can, literally, make you ill! Thanks for posting this.

    1. So glad you have got to the bottom of yours Gill. There is no question about the fact that loss of sleep makes you ill. If I have a bad night or nights then I suffer badly and it has even got that if I miss my afternoon rest I am awful the following day. I thought it was just my body needing healing but reading this its the insomnia causing the problem in the first place.

  2. I’m an insomniac. Loss of sleep, or too much sleep makes me worse. It was told to me by my doctor when I was first diagnosed that sleep plays an important factor with this illness. I have found it to be extremely true too. Too much sleep can make you hurt just as well as loss of sleep. The problem is finding that middle ground and sticking to it. You have are up, then you can’t sleep, then you exhaust yourself, then sleep too much, causing more flare ups. I’ve actually found my body only needs around 4-6 hours of sleep. then a small nap sometime in the day. Doing this, I have decreased my flare ups by 75%. That’s a HUGE difference even without pain, let alone with this sort of pain.

    1. You are so right Kelli, I agree with everything you are put there – you can’t do right for doing wrong, its a bind. Personally I don’t think there is another feeling as bad as lack of sleep, everything hurts like you say. Well done with your achievement by working out how much your body needed.
