May 12th has been designated as International Awareness Day for Chronic Immunological and Neurological Diseases (CIND) since 1992. The diseases included in CIND include Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), Fibromyalgia (FM), Gulf War Syndrome(GWS) and Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS)
May 12th was chosen as it is the birthday of Florence Nightingale. She was believed to have suffered from ME/CFS.
This site http://www.may12th.org/ was launched in August 2011 and is intended to be a central repository of information about May 12th International Awareness Day and awareness raising in general. It’s for the benefit of the patient community and will be dependent on the public making them aware of activities so the site remains up to date. It will also have links to websites, forums, blogs, books etc that are relevant to sufferers.
