HUG YOUR KNEES FOR BACK PAIN…

According to an article in today’s Good Health in the Daily Mail, hugging your knees can help back pain.

A Consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Barnet Hospital, Rajiv Bajekal, takes some simple painkillers like Paracetamol for back pain for a few days then he does some simple yoga exercises to stretch his back and then lies down and pulls his knees to his stomach and rolls from side to side to give the back a good stretch.

Rajiv also advocates a memory foam mattress which he says ‘contours your spine and eases pressure around it.’

  1. That’s interesting, but I wonder if it’s something you could do – I suspect that certain types of back pain are too excruciatingly painful to be able to do it.

  2. Actually after my first spinal surgery one of the exercises I had to do was to hold my knees and rock from side to side just like he says, but since the second surgery I couldn’t do it, so I guess it does depend on how your back is.
