Pain is something we all experience at some time in our life.  Physical pain is a feeling that lets your brain know something is wrong with your body.  It sends a warning message which can be felt as discomfort, tingling, burning, throbbing, stabbing, soreness, aching or sometimes agony.  Unless we have pain we simply wouldn’t be aware that there is a problem somewhere in our body and we need to do something about it.

Hypnotherapy has been used for many years to manage different types of pain including joint pain, IBS, sciatica and also pain from injuries and illnesses.

Using Hypnotherapy for pain management can be used either alone or alongside medication but if a person is considering using hypnotherapy for pain control they should visit their Dr for a diagnosis before proceeding.  This is necessary to eliminate more serious causes of pain – for example, the root cause of a persistent headache could possibly be diagnosed as a brain tumour by a medical professional.

Sometimes it is right to remove pain and sometimes it is not.  The pain the sufferer is feeling might be necessary, it might be there as a warning that they need to find out what is wrong and get a correct diagnosis.  If the pain is taken away the person might sustain further injury which might worsen the condition.

An example of when it would not be right to remove all pain would be a broken bone because releasing the pain may cause them to forget about the bone being broken and be tempted to use it which would ultimately cause more damage.

However, in some cases it is right to go ahead and remove pain, as the pain is not necessary and will not cause the patient further problems.  Examples of this would be dental pain, phantom limb pain, childbirth, terminal illness, shingles and surgery.

So What is the Alternative?

Hypnotherapy changes the way the client responds to the pain signal and creates a positive internal focus and changes negative beliefs.  In some cases, it can create more effective responses to medication by stimulating the brain’s analgesic response.

Pain can be debilitating and have a major grip on our lives but effective pain control can be found within yourself and your own mind.  To understand that we have the resources within ourselves to control pain is a major step forward

Hypnotherapy can help you to use your own internal resources to dramatically reduce pain.  In many cases, pain can be totally eliminated by using our techniques.
