I have written many a post on travel and back pain and although many of us are not flying abroad because of the pandemic, many of us are starting to holiday in the UK, which means travel by car.
Back pain doesn’t have to bring your life to a complete standstill. While the most severe cases of back pain can be debilitating and make leaving the house next to impossible, the good news is that most people do not suffer from these types of back pain.
You may also have planned your first trip to see your family for a long time. If your medication soothes your pain, you just need to be aware of a few travel tips that will help to make your journey smoother and relatively pain-free.
*Make sure your car is roadworthy
*Adjust your sitting position and utilise the lumbar support.
*If your car happens to have heated seats, it’s definitely a good idea to make good use of them in your quest to prevent back pain. The heat has the great benefit of relaxing tight joints and muscles, helping blood flow to the area applied to, and therefore relieving pain.
*Pay attention to how you get in and out of the car. Sit down facing the door and swing both legs into the car. Getting out is the reverse. If this is too uncomfortable to do, you can buy swivel cushions to help you turn around.”
* When traveling on any type of transport, always take a break. It will allow you to stretch your legs and move more easily.
* Use rolling luggage bags that have wheels for easy transportation. Avoid backpacks or bags that you need to carry. These will strain your back.
* Get a neck pillow for yourself prior to travel, especially if its a few hours drive away. The neck has a direct impact on how the back feels. Give your neck proper support and your back will thank you for it.
* Wear proper footwear. I don’t know about you but no matter what I travel in I find my feet swell so I always make sure I have comfortable shoes for the journey and don’t forget to pack the best ones for walking around in. Consider if you’ll be walking a lot or doing any activities that may be physical in nature. Prepare accordingly.
*Plan your first 24 hours so that you give yourself time to get over the travel which will then help you to enjoy the rest of your holiday.
*Research your destination IN FULL. Look if there are any steps and how many there are to get from a to be. Find out how far away you are from any of the amenities that are available.
*The most important thing is that you are prepared and can then enjoy your holiday without any problems.

These are some great tips Bar – thanks for sharing! I find the heated seats so helpful. As you said, the heat can relax those muscles that like to tighten up when we travel. Your point about the most important thing being preparation is right on the money. Being prepared can make all the difference, can’t it? Sharing!
