We all suffer from stress at some time in our life but nowadays ‘stress’ is a huge factor in disrupting our lives and affecting our health.

Some causes of stress are obvious but others are silent and could actually be caused by our diet and lifestyle. Drinking too much caffeine is a big no-no but some people do not realise the amount of caffeine in energy drinks, chocolate or cola.

Having to much of these can encourage the production of cortisol and adrenaline which are the hormones which can be at the heart of your anxiety.

If you are feeling stresed the body’s lymphocytes (white blood cells that help fight off infection) decrease, which are an important part of your immune system that helps fight off bacteria. Stress can also affect your digestive system which can then lead to inflammation so eating the right foods is essential.

Foods rich in their own natural probiotics include yoghurt and certain cheeses. Always remember to chew your food well and leave four to five hours between meals.

Eating regular balanced meals that include some protein and natural fat as well as carbohydrate can also help.

Getting enough sleep, 8 hours if possible is an excellent way of managing stress.

Have a go at guided meditation to support your emotional health. There are lots of free podcasts and downloads you can try in your own home.
