Use your working thumb to walk along the bone of the thumb from the first to the second joint. Make seven small steps along the bones, to represent the seven vertebrae in the neck.

A warm water exercise program has been shown to help reduce pain and improve overall health. It can also help to gain strength and flexibility and improve your day to day life.

Programmes have been made up specifically for this in the US but are not available in the UK. However there are a number of Aqua Fit classes available throughout the UK in County Councils Leisure Centres.

I also found some privately run ones which are for pain but only in London and Hertfordshire.

‘Pain and Able’ swimming lessons in London can be found on their website http://www.painandable.com – they specialise in teaching adults ho need to swim to help manage chronic pain, especially back pain. I just wish this was available in my area as I would definitely go.

Another company ‘Aqua Therapy’ http://www.bodyactif.co.uk has venues in Hertfordshire and so different types of classes to help with pain.

Another company in Hertfordshire http://www.enjoythewater.com has aquatic therapy, personalised water therapy for health and fitness, and water Shiatsu.
