They say that if your feet are misaligned when you are walking, then this can cause a chain reaction from your ankles to your neck, resulting in a headache and backpain.
You can however buy special inner soles (known as orthothics) which can help. Two good ones are Carnations Powerstep or Foot Balance, which moulds to your foot and can be used in all your shoes.

Even though I have a chronic back problem I cannot wear completely flat shoes or it just makes my pain much worse 😦

Oh yes do be careful gilly, I have it in my right foot and actually if I wear completely flat shoes the pain is much worse. Take care xx
