Lavender has been used as a culinary herb since Roman and Greek times. It lends a delicate flavour to casseroles, scones, roast lamb and even ice-cream. It is a tonic to the cardiovascular and digestive system, it can lower blood pressure and can help to thin the blood due to the presence of coumarins.
It’s good for muscle spasm, sprains, strains, cramps, and rheumatic pains. It can work as a sedative to the central nervous system and can relieve headaches, nervous tension and insomnia, mood swings and pms and even keep the moths away (we have loads at the moment).
The list is endless – its antimicrobial, anti-infectious and antiseptic, making it effective on wounds and as a front-line defense against respiratory infections.
Looking through the Internet brought me some brilliant websites which has some good products to help you sleep including slumber gel, which you apply to your temples and pulse points.

I have written many a post on my love of Lavender and all its healing powers in one form or another but if it’s combined with Peppermint you will find it even better.
One of my favourite ways to get the benefits of these oils is in the roller ball format. A great pack of three is by Tisserand who sell a Little Box of Mindfulness pack of three roller balls.

Clear your head and be present in the moment with their mindful pulse point roller balls made with 100% natural pure essential oils. BREATHE DEEP blend of Orange, Petitgrain & Coriander gives your mind a break when it’s time to stop. MIND CLEAR blend of Peppermint, Lavender & Lemon allows you to declutter your mind & find clarity. Another favourite of mine is The Cotswold Lavender Soothing Gel for £4.95 their finest lavender oil carefully blended with peppermint. This super combination will help to soothe everyday aches and pains. Apply to temples and pulse points. 20g glass jar.
You can find some top tips from Mayfield Lavender on how to grow your own lavender. If you look after your lavender and have the right growing conditions, you can expect your plant to last up to 15 years. Lavender looks and smells great in your garden! Don’t forget, the bees and butterflies love lavender too!

Just a few very reasonably priced gifts for Mother’s Day above. Or you could buy her one of my favourite heat cushions. You can have the cushions filled with or without lavender and they have a five star rating on the Pain Relief Cushions website. The Soothing Shoulder Wheat Cushion is ideally suited to ease pain in the neck, shoulders and higher back areas. Perfectly weighted so that it stays in place, allowing the user to fully relax, whilst absorbing the scent of Lavender. This wheat bag measures Approx. 12.5″ x 8.5″.
