I spotted this programme which was on last night on Channel 5 – Chronic Pain: How to Live With It.
Cameras follow three people who face daily chronic pain as they undergo new treatments they have never tried before.
The patients include a bed bound Fibromyalgia sufferer who has lived with pain for most of her life and was finally diagnosed with the condition. A chronic migraine sufferer who has taken a gambit of medication to try and alleviate his pain and an arthritis sufferer.
The Fibromyalgia sufferer who like the migraine sufferer was on a gambit of medication was mainly bed bound or lying on the settee and needed the help of her family on a daily basis. She was sent to see a specialist in Harley Street who introduced her to Cannabis drops and other CBD products which had to be tweaked a bit but gave her more pain relief than she had had for years.
The chronic migraine sufferer who had to stop work as a photographer and was a one parent family looking after his two girls was on another massive dose of medication which didn’t always help. Hew also relied on his youngest daughter as the older sister was away at University. He was sent to hospital to have an implant put into his chest which had leads linked to his brain. He found this gave him some completely pain free time and was looking forward to trying to work again.
The final chronic pain sufferer was a gentleman suffering from really bad arthritis and was unable to get about like he was used to. He was sent to see a physiotherapist who gave him exercises and treatment over a number of weeks which meant he could walk his dogs every day. He was also waiting for an operation.
I found it very interesting especially the Fibro sufferer and the CBD products she was offered which I honestly think will become the norm in the not to distant future. It is well worth watching it on catch up.
